At 7:00 PM there will be a costume contest where children can show off their costumes. Tickets are .25 each or wristbands for $10 that can be used for over a dozen games. September 15, 2011 The Dunleith General PTA meeting was called to order by Sheila Hypsher at 6:34. The meeting was held in the gymnasium after the Hot Dog Supper in the Cafeteria from 5:30-6:30.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dunleith’s own Boy Scout Pack 1313.
Mrs. Towler introduced and dismissed teachers so they can prepare for parents in the classroom for Open House. While teachers were leaving the gymnasium a representative from Cobb County Library spoke to parents about the importance of having a library card for each student. Parents were able to sign up for cards after the meeting. September is Library Card Sign Up Month.
Dispense of reading of the last meeting minutes was approved.
The Treasurers Report was given by Sheila Hypsher. A motion to approve the budget was made by Tierica Smith and 2nd by Grant Baker for the approval of the 2011-2012 budget.
The Membership Report was given by Sheila Hypsher – She announced the classroom contest for the month of October where the classroom with the most memberships will get a prize to be determined and the teacher receives a special gift as well. It is $5.00 to join the PTA.
Reflections update was given by Sheila Hypsher – Reflections is the PTA’s Cultural Arts activity – Deadline for submission is October 7th. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Sheila Hypsher with any questions.
Old Business
The Swearing in of New PTA Executive Board was mentioned by Sheila Hypsher. Sheila Hypsher, the PTA President, was the only Executive Board Member present. She presented the names of the other officers: Vice President – Delores Powell, Secretary – Rochelle Blevins and Treasurer- Jolene Istas.
New Business
Sheila Hypsher listed the following fundraiser we will participating in this year and asked for support
Fall Fundraiser – Begins September 23rd Publix Cards- Pick up a few cards– portion of purchase goes to school when card is scanned Newspaper Recycling Bin – remember to utilize the bin outside of the school Cartridges for Kids – ink & printer cartridges, old cellphones, laptops Skate Night – students get a chance to win parties – Next Skate Night- October 13th Volunteers were solicited for different committees. Chairpersons are needed for the following committees:
We need volunteers to chair committees Membership Hospitality Cartridges for Kids Skate Night Coke Rewards – possibly Fall Festival Media Center (Book Fair) Classroom Reps Communication/Newsletter Legislative Health/Wellness The audience was informed that some Spiritwear and Uniforms are available for sale tonight as well as orders being taken.
Sheila Hypsher announced to the general membership that an amendment to the PTA’s By-Laws will be necessary. Because of an increase in the National PTA dues this year and an increase in the Georgia PTA dues next we will need to increase our PTA dues. We will not make the increase in our dues this year but will make the change in our By-Laws for next school year. Further information will be coming for approval by the general membership.
Mrs. Towler, the principal, presented the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) information and Title I Overview. She also introduced the Student Governance Team (SGT) nominees and let the parents know they can make their votes in the hallways as they leave.

The PTA had a drawing for PTA members; name was pulled for a Flip camera donated from Coke (Coke Rewards). Blanca Hernandez won. She has children in the 4th and 2nd grades.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 Volunteer OpportunitiesAlmost every Friday from approximately 11:00 -1:00 (2nd-5th) and 1:30 - 2:30 (K and 1st) we have opportunities to help Dunleith staff with the Dolphin Dollar Behavior Ticket store. Please join us on September 15th for a hot dog supper sponsored by PTA at 5:30 P.M. Following the supper at approximately 6:30 we will have an important meeting including SGT elections, Title I/ AYP overview and important PTA information. You will be able to meet your child's teacher and tour the school and classrooms beginning at approximately 7:00 P.M. WANTED: SGT NOMINATIONSWe are presently accepting nominations for SGT membership for parent representative and community representative. Voting will take place at the PTA meeting on September 15, 2011. If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please submit nominees' names to Sarah Towler at stowler@marietta-city.k12.ga.us.
